NHC Course Proposals

The National Havurah Committee (NHC) Course Committee looks forward to seeing your course proposals for the 32nd annual NHC Summer Institute, which will take place from August 2-8, at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, NH.

We welcome proposals on all topics relevant to our community, including proposals for all levels of student from newcomers to intermediate- and advanced-text study, as well as artistic, or experiential courses. We note that proposals for courses may wish to speak to or draw upon the theme of this year's institute: “Declare Freedom for All" - D'ror yikra l’ven im bat. (Incorporation of the theme is not a requirement: every proposal receives full consideration.) To get a sense of the range of courses and disciplines, along with photos and information about previous NHC institutes, check out our web site at www.havurah.org.

If you are new to the NHC or have never attended a summer institute, you may wish to review last year's Institute brochure by clicking here. You can also request to have a conversation with a member of the course committee by emailing courses@havurah.org.

The deadline for course proposals is Wednesday, November 18, 2009 (a tight brochure-production schedule will not allow us to consider late submissions). You will hear from the course selection committee in mid-December.

Please prepare your proposal in a word processor first, so that you have a copy saved in case of technical difficulties. Once your proposal is submitted, you should see a thank you page and receive a confirmation email. If you do not, please contact courses@havurah.org immediately.

The NHC offers teachers room, board and registration for the full program of activities (half of room and board fees are covered for co-teachers). However, NHC membership dues are required of all registrants, including teachers, and single-room supplements or extra fees for special services are the responsibility of the registrant.

If you and another person are proposing to co-teach a course, one of you should fill out the course and teacher information on this form and then the other should fill out the separate co-teacher information form, available at: http://nhccoteacherproposals.questionpro.com.

Note: if you've taught at three consecutive institutes, we ask that you take a year off before submitting another proposal.

Thank you! The 2010 Summer Institute Course Committee
